Flyday Fridays: Inside the Vatican

Hello, everyone!

Today, I´ll show you a little about what´s inside The Vatican. By the way, this may be old news to you but  the current Pope, Pope Benedict XVI has just renounced the Ministry of Bishop in Rome, something unexpected for the last 600 years.

Anyway, while I was living in my hot tropical country, I made three vows: one, to visit St, James of Compostela in Spain( which I did twice), second to visit the Holy land (which I´ve yet to do in the future) and third, to visit the Vatican City in Rome. I just did the last one last year while I was an on a week-long Italian tour. It was one of those super fast visit with a tour guide but the images will stay with me for a lifetime.

The Vatican Museum has one of the best art collections in the world and it shows. It was ransacked a lot of times but it withstood the test of time.

If I´m not mistaken, this Greek sculpture of a torso of a man was the model of Michaelangelo´s works. You know those buffed guys, on his paintings and sculptures? Well, dahlings, this is the original inspiration. ;)

The goddess of fertility, this is a pagan goddess but it fits right in the Vatican. :)

Now let´s proceed to the Sistine Chapel while admiring the corridors´ ceilings:

Ooops, I forgot that photography is FORBIDDEN inside the Sistine Chapel! I couln´t snap even once because the guards keep on shouting¨No Photos!¨ all the time and they mean it!

Anyway, I´m glad that they allow picture taking inside the Saint Peter´s Basilica. This is the ¨Pieta¨. They had to cover this in glass because in the 1970s, a deranged geologist tried to destroy this historic and important sculpture by Michaelangelo. I magine if the guy succeeded in totally smashing this piece, he would have destroyed more than half a millenium of unforgettable art and history!

This is the ceiling of the cupola of the basilica where the main altar is located. It´s impressive and on the ground below the altar is where St. Peter and the rest of the popes are buried.The St. Peter´s Basilica is a church built over other  churches since the 4th century

Lastly, this wasn´t what I wore when I visited The Vatican, this was when I we visited the Catacombs of  Callixto, one of the largest and oldest underground cemeteries in Rome.

The visit to The Vatican was one of my travel highlights in my life and I´m thankful that I did it with the person that I love despite the suffocating heat wave during that time. hahaha!

HELLO, IT´S BEEN A WHILE...

 It´s been forever since I´ve updated this blog of mine. So just to give you an update of where I´ve been and what I´ve been doing, I´m still here in my tiny corner of the world and visiting high places( as in mountains) and traipsing around vineyards just before the wine season is about to start. With international travel getting a bit complicated due to the you know what, I´ve learned to appreciate and be contented with what´s right in our own backyard. I´ve always been a nature lover through and through and so travelling to big urban jungles isn´t a big deal for me. The city where I live is full of parks and surrounded by mountains and just a little less than an hour, you can also visit the vineyards for free because they´re just along the highway. As for the wine tasting, that, you have to pay though.;) We took these pics at the beginning of summer where the grapes look like tiny little dots yet. WIWW: What I was Wearing Lately

 Hello, my loves! Yep, it´s been half a year since I´ve been gone. As usual, real life got in the way with virtual life ( although I wasn´t really very active with virtual life to begin with, oops!) . Anyhoo,   here´s just to give you  a heads up that I´m still alive and kicking and even if I may  be not upgrading the blog with new posts for a very lo ooong time, I´m still on trend with the, uh, trends . 😃 Like for example, the ubiquitous animal print aka  leopard print, I´m still wearing it. Mine though is a jacket from more than two years ago. A print like this never goes out of style and so you better stock on it. Just pair it with a monochrome look and you´re good to go. sweater- Pull & bear, pants- Bershka, shoes- Nike, coat(old)- Mango  As for the snakeskin print,  I experimented on it a few years ago with a dress but this time, I opted for a pair of booties which I got during the Black Friday sales last December. Camel, what color art thou?

I´ve been seeing different  shades of the color camel in the internet and I´m quite confused as to what type of color and shade it really is. So I did a little research and found this: source Hahaha! Just kidding! :) But if you look at the picture closely, the color of a camel´s skin should be in a shade of grayish brown, no?  According to  Wiki  , ¨Camel is a color that resembles the color of the hair of a camel and the first recorded use of camel as a color name in English was in 1916. Based on fashion trivia, camel is the color of a specific type of overcoat known as a polo coat or camel-hair coat . In a 1951 Collier´s magazine fashion article, it is stated that camel colored polo coats are proper to wear in the summer , in the country and in the southern part of the US, but  navy blue overcoats are proper to wear in the city and in autumn, winter, and spring. ¨ Whoa, right now it´s the current autumn color trend worldwide!
